CMFRI formulates draft Mariculture policy

CMFRI is in the process of formulating a draft national mariculture policy. With rising demand for sea food projected to rise in coming years, it is apparent that marine capture fishery will not meet the needs. There has to be a policy to boost mariculture which could act as a feeder.

Mariculture is a process of scientific process of breeding fishes through cage fish farming, bivalve farming, pen culture, seaweed culture, hatcheries and nurseries. The policy should also spell the quality of seeds, fish food which will have a greater impact on the harvest.
