Cargil India Pvt Ltd (CIPL) setup in 1987, is a step down subsidiary of Cargill Inc. The company is engaged in handling, shipping and processing of various products including refined oils; grain and oilseeds; sugar; cotton and animal feed.
In India, the company’s business is structured as three broad verticals – Refined Oil Grains & Oilseeds and Trade & Structured Finance; and a few small business units like Sugar, Cotton engaged in trading of these commodities.
Each of the business unit is aligned with the parent. The company currently has three refineries operational, one each at Paradeep (Orissa), Kandla (Gujarat), and Kurkumbh (Maharashtra). The company acquired “Sweekar” brand from Marico in 2011 as part of its strategy to focus on the branded refined oils business.
In September 2018, the company is venturing into rice bran oil segment with its Gemini brand. The rice bran oil will be fortified and will be priced competitively at Rs. 125-130.
In July 2020, the company has expanded its Kurkumbh facility in Pune with an investment of ₹ 1120 million to set up production facility for bypass fats and speciality waxes. The total production capacity will be 35000 tpa making it as one of the largest facility. The by pass fats will have applications in tyre, candle and plastic industry.
