Animal welfare organisation Humane Society International (HSI) India and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) have signed an agreement to develop laboratory grown meat in India. Currently, meat from abattoirs have many disadvantage like high water consumption, lack of hygiene, waste disposal problems, excess use of antibiotics etc., Laboratory grown meat are grown from lab culture which tricks the cell to believe they are in the body. Earlier it was very costlier in the range of 1300 USD now it has come down to 30 USD per pound. Research is on to bring the cost further. In India, we can expect lab grown meat to reach market by 2025
