Central government is planning to increase the millet production in India to 45 million tonnes by the year 2030. Currently, millet production in India is around 17 million tonnes. The year 2018 has been declared as “Year of Millets”. It plans to utilize funds available under the National Food Security Mission, which are in the excess of ? 3000 million. It has announced that it will increase the minimum support price to one and half times of cost of production. The government also plans to create demand to have a market centric approach to bring awareness of millets nutritional value.
