NTPC and IRCTC has signed an agreement to set up a desalination plant near Simhadri in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. The company will use its patented Flash Desalination Technology (FDT) developed by NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA), the Research & Development arm of NTPC.
The plant will use the waste heat generated by flue gases and will convert sea or brackish water to mineral water. The water will be packaged as Rail Neer. The company is also considering to set up similar facilities in Talcher as well as in Solapur.
