India has built up raw cashew nut processing capacity of around 1.6 million tonnes, while its domestic production is slated at 0.7-0.8 million tonnes which results in high imports of raw cashewnuts. Most of the imports do come from Africa. However of late, many African countries like Ghana have resorted to levy high tariff and blanket ban to promote local cashew nut processing in their own countries. Such move created a disruption in the supply chain for more than few years. Currently, the industry is lobbying to promote to increase local cashew nut production in India.
