Oil Sardines in the Kerala coast have made recovery (now 1.27 lakh tonnes) after recording a lowest haul (45000 tonnes) in the year of 2016. Some of the reasons attributed are climate change, juvenile fishing and other El Nino factors. CMFRI had recommended the State government to implement the MLS (minimum landing size ) after it discovered that juvenile fishing was one of the major reasons for dwindling marine fish landings. Now, it is believed that restoration of normal coastal environment following retreat of El Nino impact is one of the main reason and arrest of juvenile fishing
